Athletic Trainer

MARKUS TURNER, MS, ATC, PES, CES, FST

Markus obtained his Bachelors degree in Biology from Tuskegee University, located in Alabama.  He earned his Masters degree in Sports Medicine, with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology, from the United States Sports Academy, also located in Alabama.  He has been practicing in the field of Athletic Training since 1998.  Some of his past experience includes:

  • EXOS Assistant Performance Training Specialist for Argentina Rugby
  • Head Athletic Trainer for Berkeley High School, CA
  • Physical Therapy Aide/Athletic Trainer for Asher Clinic, Larkspur, CA
  • Intern Athletic Trainer for the MLB Minnesota Twins
  • Intern Athletic Trainer for the NFL Oakland Raiders
  • Intern Athletic Trainer for the United States Tennis Association

In the summer of 2002, when Pitman’s first student-athletes stepped on campus, Markus was there to greet them.  He was given the honor of being Pitman High School’s first full-time Athletic Trainer (AT).  Markus has worked diligently from day 1 to deliver a truly remarkable and highly respected sports medicine program to our student-athletes.  The focus of his program integrates the care and prevention of athletic injuries and rehabilitation with movement-based performance training.  In addition to training and caring for our student-athletes, he is also a sought-after resource to our parents, coaches, faculty, and staff as it relates to sports medicine and performance training.  He believes in the coach, student-athlete, and parents all being informed and collectively working together so that a more efficient continuity of care can be achieved to ensure long-term success.

He has also established a strong partnership with the Romeo Medical Clinic in town, who serve as Team Physicians for our football program.  Aside from their presence on the sidelines, they also donate time and resources to enhance the athletic training room, as well as help organize our annual sports physical day to examine student-athletes prior to their upcoming seasons. This partnership which also began in 2002 and has grown over the years to be an integral part in the success of our sports medicine program.

Markus is originally from Oakland, CA but has since settled nicely here in Turlock with his wife Sarah and their 3 boys, JJ, Isaiah, and Micaiah.  In his spare time, he enjoys reading, family day trips, and sports with the boys.  He is an active member in the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
